Closing the Door to Fear

John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Devotional Reflection
Fear is one of the enemy’s oldest strategies.
It whispers through memories, past trauma, and painful family history. When we have seen sickness, loss, or tragedy in our families, fear tries to convince us that the same story will repeat itself.
It plants thoughts like:
"What if this happens to me?"
"What if this happens to my children?"
"What if our family is cursed with this pattern?"
But fear is not faith.
Fear is the imagination of disaster.
Faith is the expectation of God’s goodness.
The enemy tries to use fear as a doorway into the mind, because once fear controls the mind, it begins to influence decisions, peace, and even our spiritual confidence.
But Scripture reminds believers that fear does not come from God.
God gives His children power, love, and a sound mind.
That means we are not called to live under the shadow of anxiety about the future. Instead, we are invited to stand on the promises of God.
The Bible repeatedly speaks of long life, peace, and God’s protection over His people. While life still contains hardship, fear does not get to write the final chapter.
In Christ, our lives are secure in God’s hands.
The past does not determine the destiny of your children.
Faith closes the door that fear tries to open.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Today I bring every fear before You.
Every fear connected to sickness, family history, loss, and the future of my children — I place them into Your hands.
Your Word declares that You have not given me a spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind.
So today I renounce fear and choose faith.
I ask You to cover my family with Your peace and protection.
Guard our minds from anxiety and our hearts from fear.
Let Your promises speak louder than every fearful thought.
Raise my children to be bold believers who walk by faith and not by fear.
Let our family story be one of faith, healing, and Your goodness.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Faith Declaration
I reject the spirit of fear.
God has given me power, love, and a sound mind.
My life and my family are in God’s hands.
The past does not control my future.
My children will walk in faith, courage, and purpose.
We choose faith over fear.
Reflection Questions
- What fears about the future have been occupying my thoughts?
- How might those fears be connected to past experiences rather than God’s promises?
- What Scripture can I meditate on when fear tries to enter my mind?
Journal Prompt
Write down one fear you have about your future or your family.
Then write a prayer releasing that fear to God and replace it with a promise from Scripture.
